Oh my gosh... I just found out and am crying !! We live up in Orange County..about an hour and 40 minutes away... He replaced my moms knee and then decades later did mine. He was the best ! Always had jokes and a truely human caring touch. I had just saw him in May... He always spoke so glowingly of his children. I wish the office had sent out a message for those who were current patients and didnt live locally (and dont get the newspapers from down there). I am so so so very sorry. He was the real deal. A great man, surgeon and Im sure father and husband. Sincerely, barbara and william

To the family of Dr. Small,

Several members of my family and I were his patients over the past several years. He was one of the most compassionate doctors I have ever met. We all liked him very much and will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Susan Ramondelli

I was shocked and saddened to hear the tragic new about Dr. Small. He was an exceptional surgeon and an extraordinary man. He was so proud of his family and spoke of them often. He was my doctor for many years and I will miss him terribly. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I am deeply saddened by this tragic news. I was away and just found out of Dr. smalls passing. He performed hip surgery on me last Aug. and was planning to operate on my other hip this Aug. He was a great DR. and very caring man. We often spoke about my progress and he really cared on how I was doing. I will truely miss him.

It is so hard to believe that this wonderful and special man is not with us physically anymore. He was so kind and caring to his patients and to all those who worked with him at WPH. Always with a smile on his face ~~ not easy when surgery can be so grueling. His skilled surgeon's hands made so many lives better. It is with this in mind that I thank God for the gift that I had the opportunity to know Dr Bob Small. I pray for you his beloved family and know how loved he was by so many. Beloved Dr. Smalls . How sad we are that God called you to heaven sooner than we expected. You were a phenomenal surgeon and humanitarian. Dr. Smalls operated on my husband in 2005 performing bilateral hip surgery when other doctors refused to do both hips at once. Thank you so much for giving my husband his life. I am so so sorry you had to leave us. Life is so unfair. May God comfort the Smalls family.

Very sorry for your lost. I just found
out what a great man you were and
how caring you are with your patients
like no other. Thanks for being involved in someone I care about and
Love. He did surgery on Juan in the
Year of 2005, when no one else would. May God Bless you all and your family.

We are truly saddened by this tragic loss. Not only was Dr. Small a great doctor, he had a wonderfully kind spirit and enthusiasm. His confidence made any needed procedure easily acceptable. Dr. Small replaced my mothers hip at 85 and we did not have the slightest hesitation in having him do it. Mom loved visited him and spoke of Dr Small often. He always brought a smile and spoke of his passion for bike riding. We will miss him very much. Our heartfelt condolences to his family. We lost a treasured Doctor and humanitarian. God bless him and his loved ones.

To the Small family,

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your tragic loss. Dr. Small cared for both my daughters and me for many years. Perhaps more important than his expertise and abilities as a doctor, he always made it clear to his patients that he truly cared about their well-being. Whether in the office or running into him in town, he invariably took the time to say hi and make you feel that you were much more than a patient. He will be sorely missed.
