Peter T. Milano, a resident of Briarcliff Manor, died peacefully on October 2, 2021. He was 87 years old. Born and raised in Yonkers, NY, Peter excelled in both academic and athletic endeavors. He captained the football, baseball and basketball teams at Yonkers High School. It was there that he met and fell in love with Christine Prota, the captain of the cheerleading team. Peter earned a scholarship and admission into Princeton University, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. Peter’s accomplishments during his years at Princeton reflect his unrivaled energy and drive: he played varsity football, worked in the dining halls and served as the Vice President of the Canon Club. In addition, he was a member of the Air Force ROTC. He graduated from Princeton with honors in 1955 and continued his military service, eventually attaining the rank of Captain. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1957. His achievements in college and the military foreshadowed what he would accomplish throughout his life. Peter joined the New York Telephone Company in 1958 and transitioned to parent company AT&T in 1978. His incomparable work ethic, leadership skills and dedication to team building led to great personal success, culminating in his promotion to President of the Business Services Division of AT&T Information Systems in 1985. Equally impressive was his ability to instruct, inspire and instill confidence in those around him. In 1956, Peter married Christine, the love of his life. They raised three sons - Thomas, Steven and Peter - in Briarcliff Manor, NY. His boundless dedication to his work was exceeded only by his love for, and devotion to, his family. He instilled in his sons the same values and standards of personal conduct, accountability and integrity that he lived his life by. In 1989, Peter retired from AT&T and added to his legacy by becoming a founder, board member and eventually President of Princeton Project ’55, an organization established by graduates of Princeton, Class of 1955. Project ’55, currently known as Princeton AlumniCorp, provides opportunities for Princeton alumni of all generations to volunteer their skills to a variety of non profit organizations. Peter was an enthusiastic supporter of Princeton football in every way possible. He and his wife Christine rarely missed a game, home or away, for decades. They adored congregating with their friends in the Class of 1955 and they loved watching their son and grandson compete on the gridiron for Princeton (Peter ‘88 and Michael ‘12). Peter also supported numerous Catholic organizations as well as local charities in Westchester County. A devoted family man, he leaves behind, in addition to his wife Christine, his son Thomas of Watertown, MA, son Steven and wife Ruth of New Canaan, CT and son Peter and wife Karen of Essex Fells, NJ. He is also survived by six loving grandchildren - Michael, Emily, Matthew, Kaitlin, Kaileigh and Peighton. It seems no coincidence that Peter passed on the Catholic Feast Day of Guardian Angels. A devout Catholic, Peter protected and guided his family everyday of his life. All who knew him were touched by his warmth, humor, generosity and gentle spirit. He will be forever missed. Friends may call at the Waterbury and Kelly funeral home, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY on Tuesday, October 5, from 2:00-4:00 pm and from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 1394 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor on Wednesday, October 6 at 10:30 am followed by internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers donations in Peter's name to either St. Patrick's Parish in Bedford, NY or St. Theresa's Parish in Briarcliff Manor, NY would be appreciated.
