Paul Walker Dillon, devoted husband of fifty-four years to Jane, and proud father to twin daughters, Karen and Joyce, passed away on November 15, 2021 at 77 years old. He was born in Bronxville, NY to Alice and Douglas Dillon, and was the older brother to Greg Dillon of Navarre, FL. Paul spent most of his childhood in Breezy Point, NY and as an adult was a resident of Briarcliff Manor, NY for nearly 50 years. Paul was an avid swimmer and loved being by the water. Whether it was spending childhood days in the Atlantic ocean in Breezy Point, NY, summer afternoons at the town pool in Briarcliff, or watching stunning sunsets on the beach in Pelican Bay, Naples, FL, he was happiest when in the sun and at the sea.
Paul was a precocious student and graduated from Brooklyn Tech HS at the age of 16, where he earned the President’s scholarship to attend the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. Subsequently, he earned a PhD in chemistry from New York University. He spent most of his early career as a research chemist for Union Carbide, where he won worldwide recognition for his work in latex coatings. He later worked in biostatics for several diagnostics companies, including Bayer and Siemens.
After retiring in 2012, Paul remained active in his field through consulting and serving on the boards of several professional organizations. Most notably, he spent time as the Program Director and the Co-Chair of the NY Section of the American Chemical Society, the Advisory Board of the Center for Sustainable Energy at Bronx Community College, and the Industrial Advisory Board of the Polytechnic Institute of NYU. He was also a patient advisor for the Interstitial Lung Disease Cooperative, a non-profit connected with the Harvard Hospitals.
Paul had an insatiable appetite for learning, and for enthusiastically sharing his knowledge with others (whether they wanted it or not!). Paul had many diverse interests including cooking, reading, and all music, especially classical, jazz, and old-school rock and roll. He was extremely honest, loving, and loyal. He treasured his family and his friends. In addition to his wife, Jane, Paul leaves behind his daughter Karen and son-in-law Chris Rodriguez of Fair Haven, NJ; his daughter Joyce and son-in-law John Reinecke of Lafayette, CA; and five grandchildren: Elizabeth, Isabella, and Jack Rodriguez, and Alexandra and Olivia Reinecke.
