Karen Coppedge, 92, a longtime resident of Wilmington, NC, and recently of Briarcliff Manor, NY, passed away on January 29, 2020. She was born Elfriede Klopottek on January 30, 1927 near Danzig, Germany and is predeceased by her parents, Karl and Auguste; siblings Erich, Gertrud, and Karl; and husband James Young Coppedge. She is survived by her sister Lore DiSalvo, brother-in-law John; son Alan Crosswell; daughter-in-law Daphne; granddaughters Rachel, Sarah, and Danielle; nieces and nephews Maria, Laura, Peter, Andrea, Susannah, Rita, Thorsten, Anita, and Andy.
She studied ballet at the Rewend School in Berlin, was a fashion model for the Hartford Agency and Gustavo Designs in New York City, and worked at E. Leitz, Inc. as a bilingual secretary until retirement when she and James moved to Wilmington. She was a member of the Cape Fear Garden Club and volunteered at the Wilmington Arboretum.
Due to COVID-19, the memorial service planned for Friday March 27, 2020 has been postponed to an as-yet undetermined future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, 7500 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28411.
