Long-time resident of Ossining, (Gwendolyn) Aileen Hunt, aged 96, died in Briarcliff Manor on Tuesday, March 22 of natural causes.
Aileen is survived by her devoted husband, William Hunt. She was deeply loved by her children, Barbara, Thomas (deceased), and Scott Hunt, as well as her four grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Prior to Aileen’s retirement in 1988, she was the Senior Purchasing Agent for the Ossining School District, where she spent over 25 years of her career.
Upon retiring, Aileen volunteered to create the Ossining Food Pantry at the behest of four local Episcopal priests. This organization is still compassionately serving hungry area residents. For her work at the Food Pantry, Aileen was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 2007. She continued volunteering for the Pantry until 2018. Aileen was also involved in other charitable works in the community, many of which were accomplished through her long-term membership and altar guild responsibilities at St. Paul’s on the Hill church.
A memorial service will be held at the St. Paul’s campus of Grace Church, 40 Ganung Drive, Ossining on April 30th at 11am. Any donations in Aileen’s name can be made to The Ossining Food Pantry.
