Nunzio Antonecchia 98, of Ossining, NY passed away on June 3, 2019. Nunzio was born on December 5, 1920 in Casalciprano, Italy to the late Donato and Domenica Antonecchia and immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1922.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ann (Ferarra) Antonecchia, with whom he shared seventy three loving years of marriage, raising their daughter Angela who married Frank Modica, and their son Dr. Donald Antonecchia married to Janet (Olson) Antonecchia.
Nunzio was predeceased by his three siblings, brother, Augustine Antonecchia and his sisters Esther and Philomena Battista. He was also predeceased by his loving grandson Richard Modica who was of great pride to him
Nunzio was the proud grandfather of Michelle Modica Kaprinski, Frank Modica, Michael Antonecchia and Lisa (Antonecchia) Miller along with their respective spouses, Michael Kaprinski, Joanna (McInnis) Modica, Kayla (Lastella) Antonecchia and Jeffrey B. Miller. He was affectionately known as “Papa Nuni” to his four great-granddaughters, Emily Kaprinski, Annie Modica, Valentina Miller and Rafaella Miller
Sgt.Nunzio Antonecchia served his country with valor during WWII with the 5th Army Airforce flying in excess of 1,000 hours in the dangerous skies of the South Pacific Theatre. He survived a crash landing and among the first American forces to fly into Hiroshima after Japan’s surrender. Nunzio was well-decorated and received his medals later in life through the efforts of Congress Women Nita Lowey’s Office
Following his military service Nunzio was a successful business man and owner of New Jersey Ladies Coat Company that was a main manufacturer of high style fashion for designers such as Anne Klein. Nunzio prepared himself to work in the industry by attending the Fashion institute of Technology in New York City.
Reposing, Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass, St. Augustine’s Church on Thursday at 10 AM. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY to follow.
