Fremont (Pete) Stafford of Ossining, NY died on August 31, 2019. He was 91 years old. Born in Yonkers, NY to Marie Anteinette Smith and Fremont Lawrence Stafford, he was raised in Briarcliff and graduated from Briarcliff High School. He served in the US Navy from June 1946-1948 where he was awarded a World War 2 victor Medal upon honorable discharge.
After the service and one year with Yorktown’s three-man unit, Fremont become one of Briarcliff Manor’s first police officers (#1 badge) as “Pete the Cop” for the next 38 years. He had a long history of service to the Village of Briarcliff and, in 2016, was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, recognizing him for all his contributions to enhance the quality of life in the county, including his extensive volunteer work during and after retirement as a Police Officer supporting the Ossining Food Pantry.
He is survived by his son, Peter Earl Stafford, daughter Cheri Frances Stafford & son-in-law James P. Dooher.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Frances Muriel Stafford; daughter Susan Stafford; sister Lynne Ferguson & brother Lee Stafford.
Memorial Services will be held privately by his family. Some of you may have noticed the Briarcliff Village flag flying at half-staff this week, in remembering Fremont (Pete) Stafford.
