Betty Tripp, formally a resident of Tarrytown, NY, Verplanck, NY and South Windsor, Ct. died on November 21, 2018 at the age of 95 years old in Glastonbury, CT. Betty was born in Tarrytown, NY on Sept 11, 1923 to Ambrose Cosgrove and Nora Burke Cosgrove.Betty graduated from Washington Irving High School in Tarrytown, NY. (June 1942) During World War II, Betty worked for Gibbs and Cox, a Marine Engineer and Naval Architecture firm, which designed many ships in support of the war effort. Following the war, Betty attended Cumberland Nursing School and continued her studies at Bellevue Hospital, then attended University of Michigan studying Public Health Nursing. She began her nursing career working for the County of Westchester as a Public Health Nurse and helped in establishing and organizing baby care clinics in Verplanck, Buchanan and Montrose.Betty met Walter Tripp in 1949 and they married April 26,1952. They moved to Verplanck, NY in 1955 and raised three children: Charles Richard Tripp of San Pedro, CA, Bruce Tripp of Rhinebeck, NY and Holly Tripp Wenner of Glastonbury, CT. Betty’s children fondly recall growing up in Verplanck and enjoying life with Betty and Walter boating and sailing on the Hudson River and Long Island Sound.Betty was active in the Verplanck community volunteering as a Cub Scout leader and as a teacher in the CCD program at St Patrick’s Church where she was very involved in many of the church activities.Betty is survived by her children: Charles Richard and Leslie Tripp, Bruce and Linda Tripp, and Holly and Gary Wenner,sister, Marian Cosgrove McCaul and grandchildren Nik and Ami Tripp, Kevin and Rosanna Tripp, Andrew Wenner, Christopher Wenner, Richard Wenner, Jeffrey Wenner, and Paige Tripp. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, November 29, 2018, 10 AM at the St. Patrick’s Church in Verplanck. Interment will follow at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
