William (Bill) A. Bauer, a resident of Briarcliff Manor for nearly fifty years, died peacefully on August 29, 2021. He was 83. Born on August 17, 1938 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Bauer. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and Fordham University, both in the Bronx, and served in Germany in the Army. In 1965, he married the former Margaret Reidy with whom he remained happily married for the next 56 years. He spent his entire career at Consolidated Edison Company where he worked in a variety of management roles of the regulated businesses. During most of his career, he worked at corporate headquarters located at 4 Irving Place in Manhattan. Bill was a proud member of the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department and served in a number of leadership roles, including Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. Until very recently, he continued to be active in the Fire Department as a Deputy Chief. A devoted family man, he leaves behind, in addition to his wife, a daughter and her husband, Eileen and Michael Madden of Briarcliff Manor, New York, and a son and his fiancé, John Bauer and Jessica Law of Gilroy, California. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jack Madden, a niece, Carol McHugh and her husband John, and a nephew, Robert Symons and his wife Karen. He is predeceased by his sister, Catherine Bauer Symons and her husband Alexander. He will be greatly missed by family and friends – including friends that extend back to his early childhood in the Bronx – who will fondly remember his incredible thoughtfulness and ceaseless loyalty. Friends may call at the Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 1394 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. followed by internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, New York. Memorial donations may be sent to Briarcliff Manor Volunteer Fire Department, 1111 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, New York 10510.
