Robert Michael Filippi (Poppy), 91, formerly of Briarcliff Manor, NY passed away on January 11,
2021. He was born in East Harlem, NY to John Filippi, survived by his daughters Karen Camilli,
Audrey Filippi, Barbara Kluender and Jacqueline Lema, along with 11 grandchildren and 8 great
grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Lillian, sisters Eileen Ciullo and Dorothy Maiolini,
sons Robert and Thomas, and grandson Shane Doebel. Robert proudly served his country
between 1951 and 1953 under the 508th Airborne Infantry Regiment of the US Army. He
eventually offered his talents in a career with General Motors at the North Tarrytown Assembly;
where his love for Chevrolet was born. As the family patriarch, he never failed to miss a family
gathering even in his worst days. Every year he looked forward to the family road trip to the
Outer Banks, where a lot of unforgettable memories were made. He was a humble man who
found wealth in the time spent with his family. “Family is everything.” Poppy was an avid Met fan
who enjoyed Sunday meals, wine time, and having his dogs by his side. He spent his free time
in his workshop building birdhouses and model WW2 aircraft; he was creative just as he was
charming. He loved the land he resided on in Pleasant Valley, NY and referred to it as "God's
Country". It later became “Camp Filippi” for his great grandchildren; where he gave tractor rides,
made pancakes, and enjoyed watching them from his porch. His smile, his laugh, and his
kindness will remain in the hearts of the ones he has left behind. “You don’t have anything if you
don’t have family.”
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Church, 381 North Highland Ave.,
