Nancy E. Deland, of Valhalla, NY, died at her home at The Knolls, on Sunday, April 11, 2021 after a brief illness.
The daughter of Jesse W. and Theresa Dundon of Erie, Pa, Nancy held a Masters degree in Clinical Speech from Pennsylvania State University, and two Bachelors degrees. She had an exceptional career as a speech and language pathologist in Westchester County, spanning 50 years, and raised her three daughters in Ossining, NY. She directed clinical speech/language services in Briarcliff Manor School System and established the first learning disability program in Westchester County. She had a private practice, expanded and named Learning House after 1979. Nancy was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northern Westchester.
Nancy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond John Deland (d. 1991). She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer A. Deland, Esq., of Holliston, Ma, Elizabeth F. Dejean and her husband Gilbert, of New York, NY, and their children, Paul, of Austin, TX and Marcel, of New York, NY, and Robin E. Brown and her husband Thomas of Metuchen, NJ and their child, Max Brown, of Brooklyn, NY.
In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, there will be a private committal service, under the care of Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee at Donate.UUSC.com.
