Marie Goyette Obituary

Marie was born in Tunis, Tunisia and immigrated with her family to the United States in January 1948, traveling across the Atlantic and only allowed one bag each, the family settled in Mount Vernon New York and became U.S. citizens shortly thereafter. In 1955 she married Roger A. Goyette they enjoyed 51 happy years together and raised a family in Cortlandt Manor New York.

Other than to care for her family, Marie’s passion was to help others. Most of her career was as a CNA helping and caring for the elderly at Cortlandt Manor Skilled Nursing Facility. New York was their home until 1999. They left Cortlandt Manor and enjoyed retirement in Deltona, Florida. Marie and her sister Cathy were active members and volunteered their time to the Sons of Italy in Deltona for many years. It was her wish to spend her last few years in the care of a nursing facility. Marie was a lover of music and loved to sing. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in three languages fluently (Italian, French and English). Her favorites being anything from the 50’s and of course those French and Italian classics. She could often be heard singing as she cleaned. Her home was always spotless, perfectly presentable and her door always opened to guests (but only if you wiped your feet first). At 4’ 10” Marie was a force to be reckoned with, many a wooden spoon suffered their fate in her hands and across a butt or two. Loving, caring, giving and fair Marie will be missed by all who knew her. She is now in the loving arms of her husband, catching up with those departed and in the caring hands of our Lord in heaven.

Marie is survived by her loving family, sister Cathy Lowe of Deltona, cousins Catherine Verderame and Philip Sanna of CT, children Linda Kastuk and Joe Goyette of Deltona. Grandchildren Kelly McGovern, Stephanie Goyette, Daniel Kastuk and Anthony Goyette. Five amazing great grandchildren, Cavan, James, Mileena, Paxton and Andrew. And many nieces and nephews.
