Jack Phillip Beck, 83, of Briarcliff Manor, NY. Born in the Bronx, NY to Fannie and Harry Beck along with older sisters, Betty and Shirley. Jack developed deep friendships, as a kid, sitting on the stoop debating every topic under the sun. He drew people to him through his dry wit and charming sense of humor. Jack attended Stuyvesant High School, subsequently joining the US Army where he served as a Medic. Jack earned his BS in the School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance at NYU and went on to earn his MS in Education from Hofstra University. Jack married Rosalyn on December 23, 1961. He was known to say that this was the, "Best decision I ever made." They were married for almost 57 years. Jack and Rosalyn had two children, Jon and Sabrina. Jack was a dedicated, loving father and husband; a family man and a loyal friend to many. Jack became a career educator and a Guidance Counselor. He was a fierce advocate for teachers and students alike. The relationships he built with his colleagues and with his students were the pride of his life. He was seen by those who knew him as a true Catcher in the Rye. Jack’s greatest joys included coaching his son’s little league soccer team, cheering from the sidelines at every sporting event or play his kids were involved in, coming up with creative ways to use SAT words in a sentence, watching the ocean from the porch of the Surf Hotel in Block Island, traveling the world, eating Mallomars, watching his Superbowl Champion Football Giants, and dreaming of what his grandchildren would be like when they are older. After retirement, Jack taught graduate students in Counseling at the College of New Rochelle and continued to tutor students in English for the SAT. He also volunteered his time at Phelps Hospital and at Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Jack is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Rosalyn, his children, Jon and Sabrina, their spouses, Usha and Todd, his grandchildren, Suraj, Lekha, Jason and Josh, as well as extended family and lifelong friends. There will be a celebration of Jack’s life in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to Guiding Eyes for the Blind or Operation Smile would be appreciated.
