Elvira Nunes

Elvira Nunes died peacefully in the company of loved ones on October 11th. She was 91 years old. Born in Portugal, she immigrated to the United States with her husband and children in 1974. For the next 21 years, Elvira worked as a nurse’s aid in Briarcrest Nursing Home. Her retirement was spent lovingly raising her ever-growing family. 

Elvira was a devout Catholic and active communicant of St. Ann’s Church. Later in life, she loved spending time watching TV, particularly novellas, game shows, and
televised mass, praying the rosary, and, most recently, teaching residents of Cedar Manor how to crochet. Needles and yarn were rarely out of her reach,
making hats and booties to donate or doilies and tablecloths for her loved ones.

She is preceded by her husband, Anibal, and grandson, Kieron. She is also survived by her sizable family: her seven children, Anibal, Anacleto, Antonio, Aderito,Teresa, Zita, and Acacio; their spouses, respectively, Edite, Aida, São, Clara, Carlos, Antonio, and Michele; her twelve grandchildren, Monica, Rita, Karina, Kyle, Jesse, Melanie, Shawn, Giselle, André, Michaela, Spencer, and Raquel; and her six great-grandchildren, Marquesa, Robert, Minka, Kai, Charlotte, and Rio. She will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to OVAC and St. Jude.

Elvira Nunes will always be remembered for her heart. Her kindness and loving nature will forever inspire the ones she touched, the ones she raised, and the ones she loved to carry that generosity of spirit to others. Love you, Avó.

Reposing, Leach & Thomas Funeral Home on Monday Oct. 14, 2019 from 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass, St. Ann’s Church, Ossining, NY on Tuesday Oct. 15, 2019 at 10 AM. Entombment, Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY to Follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to OVAC and St. Jude.
