Sharon Faris was born Sharon Kay Smith in Wellington Kansas on November 1, 1943. She was the youngest in the family, with a brother and two sisters and parents who worked hard to provide for a family of four children. She graduated from Wellington High School and decided that she wanted to make a mark, so she went to Emporia State Teachers College and participated in theater and choral activities and was in the Pi Kappa Delta honor society. She entered and won a contest as Miss Chiropractic of 1962, the World Queen of Posture.But Sharon wanted to see the world, and when Trans World Airlines was hiring, she applied and was hired as a flight attendant (then called a stewardess). So, at the age of 22, she was sent to New York City to make a career and take advantage of the opportunities to travel that an airline had to offer. She succeeded on both counts. Her career at TWA led her to into management with successes as a Manager of Contract Administration and as a Director of Labor Relations. Sharon spent 35 years with TWA, retiring in 2000. While working full time, Sharon continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Science in management from Rutgers and was elected into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.Sharon's desire to travel led her to a trip to Hawaii where she met her husband, John Faris, who was also a transient in Paradise. When they both returned to the East Coast, they dated then married and spent 50 happy years together traveling, playing tennis and being with friends. They bought a condo in Hawaii and have spent the past 20 years enjoying summers in New York and winters in the tropics. In addition to travel and tennis, Sharon loved cats (both the musical and the four-legged furry ones), classical music (as well as the country and western that she grew up on) and fine wines and dining. Sharon succumbed to cancer on March 23. Memorial Visitation will be held at the Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home on Wednesday March 31, 2021 from 3-7 PM.
