Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Mirsky of Ossining, NY passed away peacefully on September 2nd at the age of 87.  She was born on January 4th, 1937, in Springfield, MA to the late Leroy and Isabel Bawn Parks.  She grew up on a farm in Suffield, CT and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1958 as a Bachelor of Science in the School of Home Economics .  After college she worked at Filene's Department Stores in Boston, MA for five years where she was a part of their Executive Training Program.  It was there that she met her future husband, Steven Mirsky (deceased), and they married at Suffield Country Club.  After getting married they moved to New York City, then to Yonkers, NY, before settling down and raising a family in Ossining, NY.

She worked for 28 years as a Teaching Assistant at Claremont Elementary School in Ossining.  She also became the Director of the Youth Connection, an after-school homework help program, that was sponsored by the Ossining Open Door.  Additionally, she worked with individuals who had moved to the United States, to teach them English as their second language. In doing so she helped them to get their own education, jobs and set up their foundation for success in their new country.

She was collector of Wallace Nutting pictures and loved antiquing.  Even more so, having grown up in a farming family, she loved being outside.  She was an avid gardener whose tomatoes and strawberries were world class, she enjoyed taking long (and fast-paced) walks, and just sitting in the sun enjoying its warmth and serenity.  She was a great wife, and someone who loved working with children, which made her a dream mother and grandmother.  She had many friends who she kept active with, and after her husband Steven passed, she began to travel the world visiting many countries with them.

Sandy was the devoted mother of Mark Mirsky (wife Sara) of Darien, CT and Allison Becker (husband Rich) of Norwalk, CT.  She was also the beloved grandmother to Stephanie, Ronan and Madeline Mirsky, as well as Ashley and Emily Becker.  She leaves behind her brother Lee Parks and his wife Maria of Fort Myers, FL, and was predeceased by her sister Joyce Hinshaw of Batavia, NY.  She also is survived by her brother-in-law, Irwin Mirsky of Easton, MA, whose wife Lois previously passed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Sandy's name to the Alzheimer's Association: https://www.alz.org/
