Obituary

Richard Bloom died unexpectedly in Sleepy Hollow, NY on February 27, 2016 at the age of 79.

Surviving Richard are his beautiful wife, Myra, of Ossining, NY; his son Eric and his wife Annie of Southampton, PA; his daughter Elizabeth Bloom Oberhand and her husband Jason of Trumbull, CT; his brother Stephen and his wife Joan of Jackson, NJ.  Richard will be extremely missed by his grandchildren, his greatest prides and joys, Andrew, Stephanie, Lauren, Brian, Sheridan, Max and Mia.

Richard was born on September 6, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to Mandel and Sylvia Bloom. He graduated from Brooklyn College in 1958 with a Bachelor's degree in Education.  He married his childhood sweetheart and next door neighbor Myra Neumark in 1959.  Richard began he career in Healthcare Administration at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn as the recreation director.  In 1970, Richard opened Sarah Newman Nursing Home in Mamaroneck and ran the facility as its administrator for many years.  In 1980, Richard became the CEO and President of Richmond Children's Center in Yonkers. There he worked to make the lives of many disabled and handicapped children more comfortable. Richard was also a member and former president of the Yonkers East Yonkers Rotary Club.

Richard retired in 2005 and enjoyed traveling the world with his wife. He especially enjoyed his extended stays in Saint Maarten where he would relax on the terrace by the beach with a glass of Jameson and a cigar.  Richard's biggest accomplishments were teaching his family the true meaning of love and the importance of family.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Waterbury and Kelly Funeral Home, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard's life. The Shiva period will take place at the home of Myra Bloom March 1, 2016 – March 4, 2016; and then at the Oberhand home in Trumbull, CT March 5, 2016 – March 6, 2016.
