Melvyn L. (Mel) Kress, of Ossining, NY passed away peacefully on April 25, 2018.  He was born at Ossining Hospital on May 28, 1930 to Celia and Harold Kress.  Mel was a graduate of Ossining High School, Class of 1948.  He married Toby Venner on March 22, 1959.  He was a printer for the NY Daily News. In retirement, he was a crossing guard for the Ossining School District.  Mel was a 69-year active member of Cataract Hose Company No 2, Ossining Fire Department and served as Captain and was a Fire Department Dispatcher for many years.Mel is survived by his wife, Toby, his son, Bill and wife Nancy, his son, Steven and wife Teresa, and his daughter, Ellyn and husband John Wheeler and his seven grandchildren Bryan, Scott, Charles, Katie and Tom Kress, and Matthew and Lauren Wheeler.A graveside service will take place on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 2pm at King David Memorial Gardens, 101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY.  After the burial, the family will sit shiva from 4-8pm at 11 Gates Avenue, Ossining, NY.In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to OVAC or the Ossining Fire Department.
