Obituary

Marie Abrams, age 92, of Montrose, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026.

Born on February 21, 1934, in Ossining, she was the beloved daughter of John A. and Marguerite Mostrando. She was the devoted wife of Walter Abrams, with whom she shared 28 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2007. Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and laughter enriched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Marie began her career as a secretary with the Ossining Union Free School District, where she had also attended school. She later worked for General Precision Laboratory and Philips Laboratories before retiring from IBM in Mount Pleasant in 1994.

Marie lived most of her life in Ossining before moving to Poughkeepsie in 1995. In 2020, she returned to Ossining to be closer to family. Throughout the years, her homes were rarely without the companionship of beloved cats and dogs. An avid animal lover, she opened her heart to many cherished pets who brought her endless joy and companionship.

Marie enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and poker, and was an avid reader. She loved to bowl, the theater, classical music, and never met a dance floor she didn't tap her toe to. In quieter moments, she enjoyed watching crime dramas on television, and one of her favorite series was Sons of Anarchy, which she loved discussing at length with her granddaughters. Above all, Marie will be remembered for her wicked sense of humor, quick wit, and the joy she brought to those around her.

She is survived by her children, Edward (Cynthia) Villa, Lisa (Joseph) Flannino, and Anthony (Theresa) Villa; her grandchildren, Victoria (William) Small, Danielle (Thomas) Skeahan, Stephanie (Joseph) Bruno, Christine Flannino, Nicholas (Nicole) Villa, and Michelle (Diana) Villa; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Cyana and Reese Small; Quinn, Rylee, and Kevin Skeahan; Logan and Landon Bruno; and Anthony Villa.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, Walter Abrams; her parents, John A. and Marguerite Mostrando; and her siblings, Pasquale Mostrando, Helen Magliari, and John Mostrando.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Leach & Thomas Funeral Home. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association .

Although dementia slowly stole many of Marie's memories, it never took away the happiness she felt when she was with her family. Their love and companionship brought her comfort and joy until the very end.

Marie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
