Kathleen Charleston, known to her friends as "Kate", passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the age of 62. She was born in Washington, DC on December 7, 1948. Kate was a devoted teacher for 32 years. Her early career started as a teacher at New York City's Martin Luther King High School, where she taught for 19 years. She then joined the Ossining UFSD for 13 years as Director of Social Studies and later expanded to ESL and Humanities at Ossining High School. Kate was a devoted member of her community and would go above and beyond to help all. She was an artist and avid reader and someone who had a love for all cultures and diversity. Kate embraced every challenge in her life with intelligence, curiosity, dignity, love and and enthusiasm. This is what we will all remember her for.
Kate is survived by her daughter Kimberly Rose Anwar and her brother James Kevin Flake.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011, 10 AM, at Ossining High School, Barnes Library, 29 South Highland Avenue, Ossining, NY.
