IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce Leatrice
Brown Moes
January 6, 1937 – August 1, 2025
Joyce Leatrice Brown Moes was born in Los Angeles, California on January 6, 1937. She was the third of four girls (Rosemary, Joan, Joyce, then Elizabeth) born to Crit Sanford Brown and Mary Ruth Brown. She graduated from Hollywood High School in 1954 and began studies at LA City College. Through a mutual friend, she met Robert John Moes III, then a student at USC, and they were married December 12, 1960, in Michigan, where he had begun graduate studies at the University of Michigan. Over the years, she worked as an executive assistant for Merrill Lynch. They lived in Denver from 1970-77 when Rob was the curator of Asian Art at the Denver Art Museum and thereafter in Brooklyn, where Rob had the same role at the Brooklyn Museum. Upon their retirements, they moved to Briarcliff Manor in the Hudson River Valley. She resumed her collegiate studies and earned a bachelor's degree in music and business, magna cum laude, from Fordham University in May 2010. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Briarcliff and sang in the choir. She enjoyed playing the guitar and was a community volunteer at Phelps Hospital. She is remembered as unfailingly kind. She died August 1, 2025, at 88. She is survived by her husband, Robert, niece Agda Burchard, and nephews Scott and John Trevithick.
A memorial service remembering Joyce will be held at All Saints Episcopal, 201 Scarborough Road in Briarcliff Manor at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 24.
