Dr. John R. Klauder, 92, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024 in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Born on January 24, 1932, Dr. Klauder was a pillar in the world of theoretical physics and mathematics. He graduated from University of California, Berkeley in 1953 and received his PhD in 1959 from Princeton University.
His illustrious career spanned nearly seven decades, starting at Bell Telephone Laboratories where his research led to a breakthrough in radar technology that is also used today in the fields of lasers and seismography. In 1988, Dr. Klauder was appointed professor of physics and mathematics at the University of Florida. He was a respected and loved professor by hundreds of students over the years. His primary research interests resulted in the invention of coherent states and development of the theory of affine quantization.
An avid world traveler, Dr. Klauder visited over 70 countries and 6 continents during his lifetime. He was always ready to share a story of his adventures. A man known for his kindness, humor, and good nature, Dr. Klauder is remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Agnes Klauder and his daughter Karol Winslow, and is survived by his children Jennifer Klauder, John C. Klauder, Kim Klauder, and Katherine Klauder, as well as his former wife, Robertha Klauder.
A celebration of his life will be held at Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home on November 16 at 3pm
