IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Jim"
Patrick Martin
October 30, 1938 – April 3, 2025
To Live in the hearts, we leave behind is not to die.
James "Jim" Patrick Martin, 86, of Briarcliff Manor, New York passed away on April 3, 2025, in Westchester County. He was born October 30, 1938, in New York, New York, to James Martin and Josephine (Woods). Jim, as he was best known by his family and friends, grew up in Manhattan, graduating from St. Simon Stock. In addition to his time living in the city, Jim also spent many happy years in Yonkers, New York. He made his final home in Briarcliff Manor, after moving to the community in 1993.
Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army until 1963. His service took him across the world, including time in both Korea and Japan. Jim continued his life of service as a fireman for the FDNY. His considerable skills elevated him to the position of supervising Fire Marshal/arson investigator. He was a member of the FDNY for 37 years, making countless friends and helping to keep the greatest city in the world safe.
When he wasn't at work or at home, Jim loved being active and outside. This love of the outdoors began in his youth, growing up across the street from a park where he spent his formative years. All those hours in the park as a child evolved into a life filled with golf, fishing, and various athletic pursuits. Later in life, he enjoyed being a proud supporter of his favorite teams and his extended family's youngest members as they, too, took to the field of play. His passion for sports and activity was only eclipsed by the love he had for his family; the only team that really mattered.
Jim enjoyed all that life had to offer. He loved experiencing new things such as travelling and building his knowledge of the best restaurants in and around the city. His lifelong love of music came from his parents and remained with him through his marriage and retirement.
A dedicated husband, father, grandfather and family man, Jim never hesitated to help his family and friends around the house with whatever needed fixing. He could always be relied on to investigate any new purchase or repairs that might require him rolling up his sleeves. A generous man, Jim took great pride in providing for his family and forever making them feel safe, secure, and loved. Everyone who knew Jim was influenced by his zest for life and how he made the most of his days.
Jim met his loving wife, Rosemarie (Matturro), in February of 1969. The two were married on January 14, 1972. They spent 53 loving years together, not only as man and wife but as best friends. Their love grew deeper over the decades, built on the certainty of their bond and endless commitment to each other. Together, they brought light and joy into the lives of their friends and family who knew the couple as their loving Jim and Rose. To Rose he will always be her beloved Jimbo!
Jim joins his departed parents and his younger sister Jean (Martin) Haas.
He is survived by his wife Rosemarie, his daughter Lisa (Martin) and her husband Paul Rossi, his granddaughter Barbara (Rossi) and her husband Thomas Moscinski. Along with his sister-in-law JoAnn and her husband Charles Weagle, and all his adoring nieces and nephews and their families Jennifer, Paul, Tara, Matthew, Karolina, Danielle, Vincent, Michael, Paul Jr., Jack, and Elizabeth.
