Helen L. Chanowsky 94, of Ossining, NY passed away on Feb. 13, 2020. Helen was born on Nov. 22, 1925 to the late John and Virginia (nee Lawrence) Colwell in New York, NY. Helen was predeceased by her devoted husband Joseph Chanowsky in 2000. Professionally Helen was a school teacher in the Yonkers Public School district for 39 years. Helen was a proud volunteer for both Phelps Hospital for 20 years and the Ossining Public Library. Helen is survived by her children Lawrence (Maureen) Chanowsky of Lake Ariel, Pa, Corliss (William) Gregg of Cortlandt Manor, NY, her sisters Irene McCarthy of Jacksonville, Fl, Virginia LiSanti of Manalapan, NJ, her seven cherished grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her brother John Colwell. Reposing, Leach & Thomas Funeral Home on Monday from 2-6 PM. Funeral Mass, St. Augustine Church, Ossining, NY on Tuesday at 10 AM. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY to follow.
