IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gopal
Narasimhan
August 11, 1974 – June 16, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Gopal Narasimhan on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the age of 49.
Gopal was born on August 11, 1974, to Melatur and Sudarshan Narasimhan in Queens, NY. After he graduated from Bronx Science in 1992, he went on to complete his bachelor's degree at Johns Hopkins University, master's degree at Boston University, medical degree at Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and his internal medicine training and gastroenterological fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan. Inspired by his own battle with Crohn's disease, Gopal practiced gastroenterology in Washington Heights for over 20 years up until the time of his death, and treated thousands of people like him with procedures and care. He was a role model and mentor who impacted the lives of countless colleagues and patients.
Gopal was an avid traveler and shared his love of seeing the world with his wife, Sandhya Narasimhan, and two children, Neel and Shreya, taking them everywhere from Iceland to India in comfort. He was a skilled golfer, spending hours on the course showing Neel how to firmly hit the driver and Shreya how to perfectly sink a putt. Gopal also took pride in his vintage car collection, working to repair and maintain vehicles over fifty years old for drives around his hilly Briarcliff neighborhood.
He was known to be the life of every party, greeting every guest with a big smile and instant offer of food and drink. Gopal was generous, friendly, and above all, kind. He had a huge heart, and treated all those he met as his family. As such, there are many who will feel his absence.
He is survived by his wife, his children, sister, Mangala, and nieces and nephews Maya, Jai, Pranav, and Annika. A funeral service is scheduled for 12:30 PM on June 19, 2024, at Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510, followed by a reception at 11 Rosemont Lane, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, an organization Gopal felt strongly about.
