Ernestine Dole Childs Opie long time resident of Ossining died at age 101 on Dec. 22, 2016. She was born in Hatley Quebec Canada on Jan. 24, 1915 daughter of Alberta and George Dole. Her first husband James Childs died on June 1958. She is predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth Schweizer and survived by her daughter Margaret Rea of Kingsville, OH. Also survived by her loving husband Jay B. Opie, nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.  Mrs. Opie retired from the Dept. of Public Works as a labor supervisor. She was a Trustee and Deconess for several years at First Baptist Church of Ossining. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 506 and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Opie is fondly remembered by family and friends as a caring person who always did for others.  She was an avid traveler, gardener and swimmer. Reposing, Waterbury & Kelly Ossining Funeral Home, on Tuesday 2-5 PM. Where funeral services will be held at 5 PM. Interment, Cold Spring Cemetery on Thursday 1 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in her name to First Baptist Church of Ossining, NY would be appreciated.
