Obituary

Christine Marie Prota, the first child of Joseph and Mary Prota, was born on February 1st, 1934 in Yonkers, NY.  At Yonkers High School she played basketball, volleyball and was the captain of the cheerleading squad.  Peter Milano was the captain of the football team, and he quickly became the love of her life.  They were married in 1956 at St. Mary's church in Yonkers.

Peter served in the Air Force after graduating from Princeton University.  He was assigned to a base in Fayetteville, NC where the couple had their first child, Thomas in 1957.  After completing his military service, Christine and Peter moved back to Yonkers.  After the birth of their 2nd son, Steven in 1959, they bought a house in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Christine and her family enjoyed an idyllic 17 years with neighbors she cherished on a quiet cul-de-sac that included a view of the distant Hudson River.  During this time her third son, Peter was born.

In 1978 her husband was transferred by AT&T to Basking Ridge, NJ.  Although this was very jarring for her, Christine quickly formed great friendships with neighbors on her new street, who she adored as much as her neighbors in Briarcliff.  She became very active in the local Garden Club, and her creative side blossomed; she loved making holiday wreaths, and flower arrangements with her new friends.  Peter's retirement from AT&T prompted the couple's return to Westchester in 1992.  Their house in the charming town of Bedford, NY and its close proximity to her friends and relatives was a source of great joy for Christine.

Christine loved cooking, watching the Yankees and staying in touch with her many childhood friends and relatives. She and Peter loved people and cherished forming lifelong relationships. Their friendships spanned multiple decades and numerous locations. They were in constant contact with friends from the neighborhood, Princeton University, the military, AT&T, Briarcliff Manor, Millington, and Bedford. They were extremely close to their extended family as well . They always visited with their parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Christine and Peter formed scores of relationships that were loving and supportive. Their children thrived in this environment. They were nourished by this "network" of love.

Devotion and a deeply caring heart were defining qualities of Christine: devotion to being a good friend and neighbor, to her Catholic faith, to keeping her house clean and neat, and - most of all - her unwavering devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren. The qualities of strength, fortitude, and unconditional love were hallmarks of her character. Christine will be forever missed. She is survived by her son Thomas, her son Steven and his wife Ruth, her son Peter and his wife Karen, and her grandchildren: Michael, Emily, Mathew, Kaitlin, Kaileigh, and Peighton.
