SHEA, Paul Vincent, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2019, at the age of 87, surrounded by family local to Louisville, KY where he had recently moved.
He was born on October 23, 1932 in Charlestown, MA, later moving to Somerville, MA where he attended St. Clements High School, and where he met Gertrude (Gert) O’Brien, the love of his life.
Paul and Gert married in 1956 and a year later, after earning a BS in Business at Boston College, they started a family. In addition to Gertrude, his wife of 63 years, Paul is survived by five children, eleven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren: Kathleen (Mark) Ruggiero, and sons Matthew and Casey (Emily); Paul V. Shea Jr. (Gigi), and son Ryan and daughter Lauren; John Shea (Rose), and daughter Katy, and son Alex (Gina), and great-grandchildren A.J. and Lucia; Maureen (Barry, recently deceased) Somervell, and sons Michael and Jack and daughter Meghan; and William (Libby) and grandsons Will and Andrew.
He was predeceased in death by his youngest son, Christopher James Shea, and his parents James E. and Mary (Walsh) Shea, and brother Joseph (Eileen) Shea. Paul is also survived by his siblings: James (Irene), Francis (Maureen) and Virginia (Richard), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Paul had an impressive career as an Executive VP of Sales and Marketing for organizations that included Crane Co., ITT Grinnell and Briggs Plumbing. In his later years, he also served as a Consultant to his dear former friend, John Pope’s family-owned company, F.W. Webb. Paul and Gertrude moved from the Boston area to Westchester County, New York in 1964 where they raised their large family and enjoyed forty fabulous years. Paul and Gertrude were members of Sleepy Hollow Country Club for fifty years and they both treasured the dear friendships and memories that were forged there. Paul and Gertrude spent the last seventeen years in Clermont, Florida, once again establishing wonderful friendships and enjoying the uniquely hilly terrain of their new home city.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 7, 2019 at St. Theresa’s Church, 1394 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, New York. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm, Friday, December 6 at Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, New York.
