I could write volumes about Mare and the Duffy clan and what a great neighborhood we all grew up in, on Park Hill. Most people are not aware that I was the 9th Duffy child. More importantly I last saw Mare at my son Tom's engagement party in July 2017. As always she looked fantastic ! She mingled with many of the Guests most of whom she didn't know. As always, she was very Classy and Articulate ! I know she had a great time and it was so Important to my Family that she be there ! She was like my second mother on Hillcrest and I will always have a spot in my heart for Mare ! Doretta and my Prayers are with the entire Duffy Family.

The most recent joy chatting with Mary Louise was when my husband, Jack, and I went ( at beckon call) to live and care for Peg O'Brien, 2009-ish in Rhode Island. ML would call often. I loved those calls...us girls would cackle at everything from 'maybe we should get tats" to Peg's pitty stories telling ML she made attempts at giving her kids special gourmet treats like " floating island" - dead lemon cake with grape jelly dripping over it. Those women on the hill shared births, any excuse for party, any event they could crash, Racquet Club teas, plays, same bartender, clay courts, bridge- any excuse to laugh. And did they know how to laugh! These women came from a legendary mold...a wit that permeated wars, illness, theatrical critiques, opinions on all subjects-- great readers, mentors.. matched any other wit...they taught us how to live to the max, how to take on enthusiasm, fill the glass half full, never give up, sing anything anywhere, dance in spite of the vericose veins.....enjoy every bite. Thanks ML - you'll always be in our hearts.
