Hector Luis Reyes passed peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2019 at his home in Briarcliff Manor, New York. He is survived by his wife: Barbara Ann Reyes, two daughters: Danielle Maria Reyes and Christina Diane Neretic (Alex Neretic), his granddaughter: Ava Lily Neretic, four siblings: Porfirio, Jorge, Delia, and Sonia, and extended family. Hector, 73, was one of seven children of Concepción and Crispin Reyes, born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, USA. He was a caring, jovial, and generous man who was deeply loved by family, friends, and his dog, Tiko. Upon graduating Tottenville High School in Staten Island, he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Aviano Air Base in Italy. In 1969 he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann. They moved to Briarcliff Manor, New York in 1972, where they raised their daughters. A graduate of Pace University, he began his 25-year career at IBM in accounting and later transitioned to telecommunications, which took him to locations across the United States and South America. After taking an early retirement, Hector joined the Town of Lewisboro, where he served as the Director of Finance. Throughout his life, Hector was happiest when he was with family and friends. He loved fishing, hiking, canoeing, and traveling with his daughters. He helped coach their soccer teams, attended numerous tennis matches and art shows, and became an active sports fan of their shared alma mater, the University of Michigan. Hector was also a master at trivia and crossword puzzles, a devoted Yankees fan, and a talented cook. He took great joy in hosting cookouts, where he was often the life of the party. An avid gardener, he was in his element outdoors whether creating beautiful floral gardens or proudly sharing the harvest from his abundant vegetable garden. He was a long-time and proud member of Briarcliff Manor's Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion.
Hector Reyes will be remembered for his charm, kindness, and love of laughter. He was a friend to all who knew him and will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten. A memorial service for Hector will be held in the summer. A place of great significance to Hector was the Hudson River, where he enjoyed fishing, boating, and catching up with friends.
