George Kane Obituary

George Kane, 87, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness. George was born, raised and a lifelong Ossining resident.  His parents, Agnes “Babe” (Reilly) Martin J. Kane, brothers Robert & Charles and son J. Bryan predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosemary (Merslich), sons Gregory (Beth Hiler) and Michael (Rebecca Pottiker), 6 grandchildren; Harrison, Jackson, Wilson, M. Oliver, Emilia, and Tara (Gregg Garrett), 4 great grandchildren, & brother Dennis Kane. George graduated from OHS in 1949, served in US ARMY 1951-1954 SERGEANT in Europe and married Rosemary in 1957.  He proudly served on the Westchester Parkway (County) Police for 10 yrs, but, he wanted more for his family. George left the force to pursue selling real estate. His early success paved the way to open a local office where he worked until retiring a few years ago. He was involved in the Ossining community, a former Village Trustee, ELK, and Point Senasqua Rod & Reel Club member as well as a member of the American Legion. George had a passion for golf, OTB, and people.  You could count on him sharing his political insight or a story about the Ossining of long ago.  Lastly, George’s family recognizes and appreciates the kindness of the community friends who were always willing to lend a helping hand this past year; Shelly, Liz, Tracy, Eduardo, Frank, Bob, Mauro, Daysi and Linda – Thank you all. Visitation will be held at Leach & Thomas Funeral Home on Tuesday 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George’s name to the Ossining Police Department.
