Ellen Marie Davis

Ellen Marie Davis was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Laverne (Chivis) Davis and the late Joseph William Davis on August 21,1949. Ellen died December 14, 2017.

Ellen was baptized and confirmed at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Grand Rapids. As an adult, she actively participated in her church, including serving as Senior Warden. In recent years, Ellen joined Renaissance Church of God in Christ in Grand Rapids where she participated in Bible Studies and continued to grow in her faith and devotion to Christ.

Ellen graduated from Kentwood High School in 1968. She worked for General Motors for thirty years, where she excelled in her work as an inspector. Ellen enjoyed many civic and community activities. She was a member of both Club Cruisers (a social club) and the Argentine Club (a women’s card club of which her mother was a founding member).

Ellen is survived by her mother, Laverne Davis, son Michael Davis, stepson Shawn Landon, and grandson, Donte Landon. In later years, she took particular joy in spending time with and caring for her beloved grandson.

Ellen is also survived by her sisters Jacquelyn Peters (William) and June Davis; brothers Warren Davis (Patricia), and Kenneth Davis; her aunt Thelma Chivis; eleven nieces and nephews, eleven grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and a host of cousins. Ellen was a friend to many and will be especially remembered by her life-long best friend, Cynthia Coleman and dear friends Patricia Harper, Mattie Madison, Altheria Wofford (Peaches) and Monte Chivis.

This year, following significant health struggles, Ellen relocated to New York to be closer to her son and her mother. She most recently resided at the Fieldhome skilled nursing facility, where she was well cared for by a loving staff.

Services are as follows: A wake will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. ; Funeral on Wednesday, December 20, 11 a.m. Both wake and funeral will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 201 Scarborough Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510. A memorial service, to be held in Grand Rapids, MI, is also planned for Spring 2018.
