David "Dave” Henry Steven Winkler a 24 year resident of Ossining, NY died on October 9, 2018. He was 66 years old. Dave was born in Coos Bay, Oregon on March 22, 1952. Dave spent the first half of his life between Arizona and California. He was a family man and a classic gentleman. Dave was a dedicated and romantic husband, very proud father, precious hardworking son, joyful grandpa, silly uncle, loyal friend and truly devote jokester. Dave often fathered many that were not his own children, gave hope to families not his own, and provided friendship to even some of the least exalted of people. He was a restaurant owner who was politically active in his community, providing charitable meals during the holidays that were free to the public. Dave also, more quietly gave support to local and broad projects for the youth, the disabled and those with special needs. A phrase he would often say is “people from all walks of life”, to discern the beauty in our differences and experiences. And he did that just all the time; described, projected, celebrated and held precious the beauty of the world and the people in it. We will love and miss him eternally, but will honor him each time we recognize the beauty in our own lives. He is survived by his wife Donna, daughters, Siobhan (Bill) LaFave, Shirah (Ashley) Linson and Tara Winkler, grandson, Ernest Miles Henry Essary, mother, Beth K. Lamont, mother in law, Bobbie Jean Shorter, Ten brothers and sisters, a bounty of nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Tiffany Winkler-Essary and father in law, Ira “Cibo” Shorter. Visitation will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Leach and Thomas Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will take place following the visitation at Three Westerly Restaurant, Ossining, New York.
