Benedetto Martinelli was born on January 30th, 1939 in Corato (Bari) Italy.  Benedetto was the first born son of Rosaria Leo and Umberto Martinelli, both deceased.  He immigrated to the United States on June, 1955.  He was educated in Italy, attended Cornell University and Westchester Community College.  He married Claire Sarcone on June 25th, 1960 in St. Augustine Church in Ossining, New York.  They lived in Ossining until 1970 and then they bought a new home and moved to Buchanan, New York. Survived by his loving, devoted wife, Claire (Sarcone) Martinelli, sister’s Antoinette and Ernestine Martinelli of Ossining, New York,  brothers Joseph Martinelli (Gemma) of Croton On Hudson, New York, Sabino Martinelli (Denise) of Ossining, New York, and several nieces and nephews, two great nieces and several great nephews.  He was predeceased by 3 younger sisters, two infant sisters of Corato, Italy and just recently on April 21, 2017, Angela M. Swilpa from Loveland, Colorado. He was employed at the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers for forty-eight (48) years.  He was the Director of Center Services and held several management positions.  He interfaced with the United States Postal Service and was co-chairman of the Westchester Postal Customer Council from 1981 to 1985 and 1991 to 1995.   Throughout his career he conducted education seminars throughout Westchester County, Postal Forums and Mailcom educational exhibitions.  He was awarded a Professional Achievement Certificate in 1991 and the Manager of the Year award in 1997.  He volunteered his services to several non-profit organizations with their fund raising programs. He joined Senate Hook and Ladder Co. #1 of Ossining Volunteer Fire Department in 1961 and held several company offices.  He participated in several department fund raising activities and many other company events.  He served as Commissioner and Treasurer from 1974 to 201.  He loved the Fire Department: this was a second home for him. He also interfaced with the Buchanan Planning Board since 1996 to 2016.  He enjoyed participating in developing positive improvements to enhance the quality of life in the community.  He was also a member of the Buchanan Senior Citizens. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, visiting family and friends and having fun. Reposing, Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home, Ossining, NY on Thursday from 5-9 PM. Funeral Mass, St Augustine Church, Ossining, NY on Friday at 10 AM. Interment, St. Augustine Cemetery, Ossining, NY to follow.
