Ulderico DiGiovanni, “Al”, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024. Al was born on October 4, 1933 to Aniello and Adelina (Romano) DiGiovanni in Isola di Ponza, Italy. He immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of fourteen in pursuit of the American Dream. He settled in the Ponzese section of the South Bronx. At the age of sixteen he started working to provide for his family. He worked several jobs as a teenager including shining shoes, taxi maintenance and then went on to making pizza. At the age of twenty-one, he met the love of his life, Marie (DeVivo). Al and Marie married on August 24, 1957. Through the DeVivo Family, Al got involved with the junk business until early 1960. In 1960, Al joined the Local 731 and had a long and successful career as a Construction Supervisor. One of his many career accomplishments included managing the reconstruction of the very pier in New York City that he arrived on when immigrating to the United States. On February 14, 1972 he moved his family north to Westchester, New York where he built his forever home. He took great pride in his home and property. Al enjoyed long days in the garden, making pizza, hunting with his beagles and close friends and floating in the Gulf of Mexico on the West Coast of Florida. In addition to Marie, Al is survived by three devoted children: Rosanne and her husband John, Neil and his wife Denise and Laura; his six cherished grandchildren: Alex DiGiovanni and his wife Gina, Katy Caporelli and her husband Dominic, Ryan and his wife Faigy, Nicole Fusco, Conor DiGiovanni & Dylan DiGiovanni; and three cherished great-grandchildren: AJ and Lucia DiGiovanni and little Mushka. He was thrilled to hear of the news of another great-grandchild on the way to his granddaughter Katy and her husband Dominic. Family meant everything to Al also known as “Babop” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He instilled his strong values of hard work, dedication and prioritizing family to each of his children and grandchildren. Al’s family will miss him immensely but find comfort and strength in the legacy he has left behind. Reposing, Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-7 PM.
