Seymour Stanton, who made the most of a wonderful journey, died on June 1 at the age of 92, a victim of TMB (Too Many Birthdays).

He was a member of the Greatest Generation and lived a life that was a happy cliche of the American Dream.

He grew up in Brooklyn, a child of the depression, and learned at an early age to make his own way. He went off to war in the Pacific, earning a Bronze Star as he helped to save the world. Returning home, he went to NYU on the GI Bill; met and married Marilynn, the love of his life and wife for 63 years; became a successful financial executive with Boise Cascade and the Broadstone group among other companies; raised three children; retired; enjoyed four grandchildren; traveled the world; and enjoyed his life and family.

He was one of those people who asked “How are you?” and actually cared about the answer. And if you asked for his help, he gave it, immediately and without question.

Making his home in Yonkers NY, his life was about giving back, to individuals and to the community, whether it was his work with the Hillcrest Lakers little league or Temple Emanuel’s Couples Club.

In his later years he performed volunteer service with the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) in White Plains, and was honored with his selection to the Westchester Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.

On his nomination, it was noted, “What makes Mr. Stanton unique is that he asks for nothing in return. It simply makes him feel good to do for others. He leads others in a gentle way that does not make them feel inferior. Anyone that walks away from a conversation with Seymour walks away with a smile. His ability to lead and inspire is exceptionally unique. He is adored by just about anyone that crosses his path.”

He is survived by his children Rick and his wife Cathy, Barry and his wife Barbara, and Lori and her husband Joe, as well as grandchildren Casey, Gordon, Mike and Jake, and great-grandchildren Micaela and Theo, along with many, many friends who will cherish the very long time they were lucky enough to have him.

Family and friends will hold a memorial service on Friday, June 5 at 2 pm, at the Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home in Briarcliff Manor.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
