Welcome to the memorial page for

Angelina Manno

March 7, 1922 ~ May 1, 2015 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Angelina Manno (née Morelli), after a short illness, died peacefully at the age of 93 on May 1, with her children by her side.  Lena, as she was known, was born on March 7, 1922 to the late Filomena and Paul Morelli, in the Bronx, NY.

After graduating from Julia Richman High School at age 16, she worked at a variety of jobs before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Jack Manno, on December 30, 1945.  They originally lived in the Bronx and then moved to Yonkers.  For a while, she helped Jack in their small luncheonette in the south Bronx, and then got a job in the telephone company where she worked as a Customer Service Representative until she retired in 1987.  In 1976, she lost her husband unexpectedly and she never remarried.

Lena’s biggest joys in life were her children, Jack (Marjorie Blum), Ann Gaynor (Doug), grandchildren Tara Manno Geoghegan (Joe), Jack (Nicole Simoneau), Steve Gaynor (Amy Becker), Lindsay Gaynor Califano (Eric), Rachel Blum-Jose (Derek), and ultimately, great grandchildren, of whom she had 8, Isabelle, Declan, Avery, Lorelei, Jack, Reina, Luc and Grace.

Her cooking was fabulous, and you could always tell which grandchild Lena was going to be seeing soon by the food she was cooking.  Chicken cutlets for Jack, meatballs for Steve, and the list went on and on.   While we have all her recipes, duplicating them is virtually impossible due to the one ingredient in each that she “conveniently” forgot to tell us.

While she wasn’t a teacher during her lifetime, she was a teacher of life to all who knew her.  Everyone that Lena’s life crossed walked away with something that they would carry with them forever, be it a life lesson, a funny story, or simply remembrances of a wonderful woman.

A celebration of her wonderful life will take place at Waterbury and Kelly Funeral Home, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY on Sunday May 3, 2015 from

3:00- 7:00 PM.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday May 4, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Theresa’s Church, Briarcliff Manor, NY.

Memorial donations can be made in Lena’s name to The Ossining Public Library, where she loved volunteering for more than 20 years.  The address is 53 Croton Avenue, Ossining, NY 10562, attention Chris.
